Relationship health, at a glance

You usually know, somewhere in the back of your mind, when a friendship has gone quiet. The problem is you know it too late, the way you notice a plant has been dry for a week only once the leaves have gone. The signal was there the whole time. Nothing was surfacing it.

Relationship health, new in Memglow 1.4, is that surfacing. Every contact now carries a simple read on where the relationship stands, based on how recently and how regularly you've actually been in touch. It sits right on the Contacts list, one word and one color per person, so the state of your whole network is legible in a single scroll.

The Memglow contacts list with a colored health band on each person, showing Warm, Cooling, Quiet, and Building
One word, one color, per person. You can see who's thriving and who's slipping at a glance.

Four plain words

There's no mysterious jargon to learn. Every relationship reads as one of four bands. Warm means you're in a good rhythm. Cooling means it's been a little longer than usual. Quiet means it's genuinely drifted and is worth a nudge. Building is for the new ones, the people you've just started capturing, where there isn't enough history yet to call it. Each band has a color, so you're reading the list by feel, not by parsing numbers.

Crucially, the read is personal to each relationship. A friend you talk to weekly and a contact you catch twice a year are held to different rhythms, not one universal standard. Cooling means cooling for the two of you.

Open one up

Tap into a contact and the Overview explains the read in a plain sentence anyone can act on, something like "You usually check in with Olivia every week. It's been 41 days, and one follow up is overdue." That sentence, and the band, are on every plan.

A contact's relationship health detail in Memglow, showing the band, a numeric score, a trend sparkline, and factor rows
On Pro, the read opens up into a score, a trend line, and the factors behind it.

Pro goes a level deeper. You get the numeric score behind the band, a 90 day sparkline so you can see whether things are trending up or down, and a breakdown of the factors driving it: recency, consistency, momentum, and follow through. It's the difference between a thermometer reading and a chart of the fever.

A thermometer, not a judgment

I want to be careful about what this is and isn't. It's a read on rhythm, not a grade on your character or a ranking of who matters. It's Memglow's own proprietary algorithm, computed entirely from timing: the dates on your own notes and follow ups. It never reads the content of what you captured to produce it, and there's no AI in the loop forming opinions about anyone. I wrote a whole piece on exactly what a health score knows and what it deliberately doesn't, because that line matters to me.

Used well, it does one quiet, valuable thing: it turns "I really should reach out to them" from a feeling you get too late into something you can see coming. And when a relationship does slip, the weekly digest makes sure it doesn't go unnoticed.

See your relationships before they cool
